The towns are full of ancient Russian architecture from the Middle Ages including walled fortresses, monasteries, cathedrals and churches. They are surrounded by forests and fields, rivers and lakes, quite a contrast to Moscow and St. Petersburg. We shall have the opportunity to visit Russian potters, icon painters and other artists.
